The Family Thevenet
A lineage of winegrowers in Quintaine, heirs to a time-honoured know-how.
The Domaine de la Bongran is, throughout its history, a true family affair.
The estate was passed down from generation to generation, from the Gillet family to the emergence of the name Thevenet in 1904 with Philémon Thevenet, followed by his son Émile, who developed a passion for viticulture at a very young age. Émile took over the estate after his mother and expanded it, passing on his know-how to Jean.
It was Jean who gave the estate its contemporary reputation, taking up the torch in the 1970s and developing a very traditional approach to local winemaking practices, with harvesting at perfect ripeness, low yields, natural vinifications and long fermentations-a philosophy aimed at allowing the Chardonnay of the Quintaine terroirs to fully express itself.
His son, Gautier, joined him in the late 1990s and gradually took over the reins of Domaine de la Bongran and later Domaine de Roally, while continuing the family’s work.
His approach, certified in organic farming, is guided by the same commitment: to reveal the soul of the terroir through authentic wines.
